Aerus Air Scrubber Replacement

Hi folks! I bought a house recently and my fifth month in the purple light on the air scrubber attached to the HVAC system went out. My understanding is that it is time to replace the UV bulb but my local HVAC company is quoting me $360 to replace it. Two questions:

1. Can I order replacement bulb elsewhere and DIY this? What do I need to pay attention to when doing so to avoid damaging the HVAC system as a whole?

and 2) If I don't care about the air scrubber, could I just ignore it? Are there any health benefits to having it? It came with the house so I wonder if it is must-have in the system. I am generally clueless about this stuff.
