Parent who oversaw finances passed and now I am overseeing the surviving parent's financials... How best to invest?
Hi Everyone,
Long story short, one of my parents passed who managed for the most part their financial and the surviving spouse has no clue what to really do.
All money is in their name now and is still retired at 75
Roughly $2M in HYSA and CDs with interest 2-4%
Roughly $400k in 1099-R's
Roughly $400k in brokerage accounts
Also gets SS and Pension (which im surprised about the pension b/c thats almost unheard of now a days lol)
My general plan...
Consolidate the 1099-R accounts into one place for easier management
Id like to consolidate the HYSA's and CD's but ive been told to not have more thank $250k in any financial institution b/c of the $250k FDIC limit so any advice on what to do here would be helpful.
Brokerage Accounts, i'd like to consolidate and need to look at what is low risk to invest in that would yield roughly the highest HYSA Interest or close to it and review options of what could safely yield a higher interest.
SS and Pension, i guess i would push these to HYSA's for easy access if ever needed.
Considering the surviving parent is retired, im looking at low risk or slightly above that as eventually the funds would go to their children.
What are your thoughts and opinions on what to do?
