Disability Pay Timeframe

Hello everyone! I just medically retired on the 6th of April and was wondering when I actually start to accrue disability pay from the VA. On my benefits summary it states payment start date is 01 May, however, is that when I will be compensated or will that be the “pay period” starting? To clarify, will I be paid 01 May for the month of April or will 01 May start my payment period (i.e. 01-31 May, being paid starting 01 June)? TIA!
