Void, cancel, or score MCAT? (4/25 test - Urgent)

Question 🤔🤔

Senior about to graduate college here! Need some advice because today’s the 10-day deadline to cancel the MCAT for 4/25.

I’ve been studying the past 3.5 months or so part-time, and my school load was unfortunately heavier than anticipated. Originally aimed to have a 516+ on 4/25 but that’s not happening unless a miracle occurs. I know that happens more often than not in this sub but I do have to be realistic with myself here. I’ve only had the chance to take one FL (AAMC FL #1) with a score of 507. Which isn’t bad for a first pass at the exam, but I definitely feel like I can do better with more time. Especially because psych/soc was my weakest and that’s just because I’ve been neglecting the ANKI and 86-page doc, I know that.

My choices right now are:

  • cancel the MCAT
  • take and void the MCAT
  • take and score the MCAT but this option scares me because I’m worried I will do worse. Due to finals I probably won’t have that much time to study much further until 5 days prior.

Either way I’m not getting my money back for the exam and I’m slowly and sadly coming to the terms that this means I’d need two gap years, one of which is unplanned. I’m really anxious about what’s to come but I also would rather put my best foot forward rather than submitting a lower MCAT and a rushed primary. I was also advised to not take it in July/August for this cycle as it would only delay my application further.

definitely shed lots of tears over this decision in the past few days. I think the unplanned second gap year is terrifying to me, even though I have a job (clinical research) lined up after grad. i’m just unsure if I want to stick with that position for 2 years.

any advice appreciated!!
