Song of the Day Redux, Day 15: Bloody Brit Song & Zut

Shabutie: Bloody Brit Song and Zut

Two more mostly unrelated songs, showing us more stylistic experimentation in Shabutie's earlier days. If I had to guess I'd say these are probably from around 1996-1997, same as a bunch of the other similar quality tracks, but I'm not sure.

The Content: Bloody Brit Song seems to be in the same vein as Punk Song - a song that kind of makes fun of what it's supposed to be. The lyrics are widely misunderstood by lyric sites (and you know how they all just copy and paste each other's content) as including a racial slur, but Nate Kelley debunked that on the Youtube comments in the song link I provided.

Haha! It's not "Take 'em down Take 'em down NIGGA." It's "Take 'em down Take 'em down TAKE 'EM." I'm swedish...and, yeah, those are my vocals there. Yeah, no racial slurs there. I guarantee it. haha

So there you go. The words of Nate Kelley. No racial slurs in "Bloody Brit Song." That's a hell of a mystery no one thought was a mystery and didn't even really need solving. But damn if it didn't just get solved.

As for Zut, this is a jazzy song about bunnies or something. Claudio likes using rabbit imagery, it would seem. I'm not really sure what's going on here, but whatever it is, I like it.

The Music: Bloody Brit Song: It starts out with a delightful and cheery verse riff, and then goes into heavy distortion for the chorus. There's also a very distorted bridge. A few interesting things going on with guitar tones. We go back to an altered verse riff after the heavy part of the bridge, beginning with 2:17 with a sound almost like reggae or something - this segment sounds kind of like Claudio's take on The Police. Amusing stuff going on here.

Zut: Nice and jazzy. It's interesting seeing the band play with so many different styles. I'm not sure what kind of recording this is - live, maybe, or a cassette or something. The mix drops out around 1:20 and then gets moved back, which is why I'm wondering.

The Part: The part at 2:17 in Bloody Brit Song is probably the most interesting part of that song for me. I also kind of like the intro to Zut more than the rest of the song.

Bloody Brit Song

Never
Id never overturn
Never scold, scold me
You got no
No more game
I will hide

Take em down, take em down
Take em
Take em down

No gun means I couldn't hunt
You make your emotion subside with me
And we follow me away
And inside the realm where they run away

Down
Now
I want to run away
And hide under me
You and my own trouble scare
Come and cry into me

Take em down

Test, this is the one test taken
This was only a test

Zut

Would you rather
You are left in what you
Some things pull away
Before, now wearing
Things are coming
Rarer touchbacks I could see
Random struggle
For your ride we need

Imagination take away
Playing down by the river oh ho
Happy bunnies oh yes
Kiss your ass goodbye

You risk complete
I might strike at you
Sword now rushing down the cheek of every piece
Dad has told me, we have victory you see
No more bunnies you can have a last good day

Crows are coming
Going down to take away
Bye-bye bunnies
They wont miss you
Everyday [Ever?]

No-o-o-o-o

Next up: "Have You A Little Fairy In Your Home" and "Sun Blue"

We're finally running out of poorly recorded Shabutie tracks. After those two songs tomorrow, we have two live tracks that haven't really been discussed anywhere: "Skittles" and "Counteract." Then we can get to Delirium Trigger EP, including "Better than Evil," and a bunch of Coheed demos! Let me know if I've left any Shabutie stuff out so I can research and plan accordingly.
