accepted to sophie davis? a warning from an m1

hey everyone, i’m a current m1 (first year med school) in the sophie davis bs/md program. if you just got accepted, congrats: seriously; i remember how exciting that felt. but now that i’m on the other side, i wanted to share a perspective i wish i had heard back then.

the program sounds great on paper: no mcat, guaranteed med school, mission-driven. but once you're actually in it, the cracks show. the school is underfunded, the admin is unorganized, and support is limited. a lot of us feel like we’re just getting pushed through, without much guidance or stability.

there’s very little room to explore interests or take time for yourself. the curriculum is rigid, and by the time you realize it might not be the right fit, it’s basically too late to pivot. the name doesn’t carry much weight, and the resources you’ll get here (academically, professionally, even emotionally) are not on par with what other med schools offer.

people don’t say this out loud, but a lot of us regret coming here. we were scared of the premed grind and wanted a shortcut. instead, we walked straight into something way worse. i’m not saying this to scare anyone, but i do want to warn you before committing: if you have other options, or were accepted into a great undergrad program, take a step back and really think about them. sophie might seem like a safe path, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best one.

if you got into sophie, you’re probably smart enough to thrive literally anywhere else. take that chance. don’t settle for this.
