Caching food and supplies?

I am planning a thru hike and was wondering if anyone has cached food and supplies along the trail? I am planning on starting at Oconnee and head east. I was thinking of placing items at the parking lot at/near Bad Creek. Any thoughts, advice or experience appreciated. Thank you.
