Are quantum physicists the most deluded physicists on earth today when it comes to entanglement?
There are still to this day many physicists who believe that entangled particles do not interact with another.
Alice measures her photon and checks to see if it passes or is absorbed by her filter. It passes. She is able to predict that Bob’s photon will also pass (if he decides to measure on the same axis and measures).
She checks later on to see if she’s right. She’s correct.
She does this again. Notices that it’s absorbed. She predicts Bob’s will also be absorbed. She turns out to be right.
In fact, she turns out to be right every single time! Now, suppose Alice measures that her photon will pass. If Alice’s measurement is not affecting Bob’s, then that implies Bob’s photon was already meant to pass (I.e. was predetermined to pass), before either of them measured it. This kind of explanation was ruled out by Bell’s theorem and the experiments confirming it.
So the only option remaining is that Alice’s measurement outcome does in some sense influence Bob’s measurement outcome. Einstein was right about this logical dichotomy (even if he was wrong about which branch of it turned out to be correct)
Now, normally when you present someone with two options that logically span all possible options, and one of them is ruled out, a rational person with a functioning prefrontal cortex realizes that the other option must be true. This is basic logic. At about the age of 4-5, people understand this. If I tell you that Bob is either a mailman or a plumber, and you figure out that Bob is not a mailman, you will conclude that he is a plumber.
Unfortunately, this part of the brain that starts activating in most people at about the age of 4-5 somehow seems to be missing from many physicists. Unless you believe in the many worlds interpretation (which does get around this), these physicists seem to think that the particles are neither predetermined nor influencing each other, and yet by magic, happen to always be correlated.
The biggest irony is seeing these same physicists calling supernatural explanations bad explanations since it amounts to magic, yet believing in it themselves.
Their responses are always “it’s because of a global wave function! Not magic!” A wave function is a mathematical statement that is used as a tool to describe what’s going on, not explain what’s going on. What causes these people to not understand this basic fact that many 10 year olds seem to understand easily?
If you are interested in a more formal overview of this logical dichotomy by a person with a functioning prefrontal cortex (unlike most physicists today) aka Einstein, feel free to read this piece: https://www.informationphilosopher.com/solutions/scientists/einstein/dialectica.html.
