Wizard of Oz themed party
The latest patch has done wonders for my restartitis; somehow the increase in build options has made things finally click and I will now see my single playthrough through to the end. I won't even respec anymore - the path is clearly laid out in front of me.
/sarcasm
Anyway, I've had this idea for a 'Wizard of Oz' themed party but it hasn't fully come off the page yet. My ideas so far:
1. Shadowheart a.k.a. "Dorothy" - Beastmaster Ranger
Whisked away by a tornado (Nautiloid) to the strange and faraway land of Oz (Faerun), accompanied by her trusty dog Toto (wolf companion), she must make her way to Emerald City (Baldur's Gate). Along the way she is helped by Glinda (Selûne) and hindered by the Wicked Witch of the West (Shar). Equipment-wise she will of course wear the Boots of Speed and click her heels, possibly combined with Fleetfingers for added mobility, dashing and jumping around the battlefield while Toto keeps her foes at bay - Hunter's Mark and ranged attacks all the way.
2. Gale a.k.a "the Scarecrow in search of a Brain" - Knowledge Cleric of Mystra
Rather than searching for a literal brain, Gale seeks to regain the favor of the goddess of magic herself. His personal quest already seems a quest for knowledge of sorts, to get rid of the tadpole & contain the Netherese orb within his chest. Making him a Cleric makes thematic sense to me to represent his search for knowledge. Gameplay-wise it makes him more of a supporting character aiding his friends with buffs and healing, while later on his cantrips get stronger allowing him to take out the occasional bad guy, and he can lean into control spells like Slow/Confusion/Hold Person.
3. Karlack a.k.a. "the Tin Woodsman in search of a Heart" - Giant Barbarian
With her heart ripped out and replaced by an infernal engine, Karlach seems a fitting Tin Woods(wo)man. Rather than wanting a heart to help with a perceived lack of emotions, Karlach quite literally needs to fix her heart to stay alive. Luckily her current heart is coin-operated and gives her a sweet boost when she needs it. Leaning into the 'Tin Woodsman' idea, she wears the Gloves of the Automaton along with the Hellfire Greataxe, and other items that help with her fiery theme like the Cinder Shoes, alternating between strong melee attacks and thrown axes as the situation calls.
4. Astarion a.k.a. "the Cowardly Lion in search of Courage" - Some kind of Rogue (Arcane Trickster?)
Poor Astarion has a huge inferiority complex and often resorts to backhanded tactics, but he is really just looking for the courage to stand up to his master. This manifests in him pouncing from the shadows, slicing and biting any foes that expose their vulnerable backsides. Honestly this is the one I'm struggling the most with - perhaps Moon Druid is a better fit, or some juicy multiclass I haven't even thought about. I considered Halsin as well, but in most of his story involvement he is shown charging in headfirst, which doesn't really scream 'cowardly' to me.
Obviously the idea is more about roleplaying than tactical superiority, but any tweaks or ideas that make the builds better while keeping with the theme are highly appreciated!
