Elder abuse

Location: Michigan

My father died three years ago. During the course of my mother's grief, she ran into a 55 yr old man who had done work on their house that was very friendly with my father. This 55 yr old man actively pursued my 78 yr old mother telling her that my dad had sent him to her. Over the course of time, he convinced her to change her will (350K to him) and "borrowed" 10K to help his credit to be able to buy a house. She wrote "house" on the checks memo line. She has since changed her will back to the original.

We did a background check on him and he has check fraud and identity theft convictions.

She now wants to sue him for the loan.

Should we persue it or just write it off as lesson learned?

Please no judgment on my elderly mom. She's a victim and it's been a hard lesson.
