Charcoal Pit

Hi guys! Today I built a charcoal pit and followed a tutorial step by step. After I lit it, it started burning, so I thought everything was working correctly. But when the fire stopped, I discovered that all the firewood had disappeared and there was no charcoal at all. Is this a bug, or did I do something wrong?
