100% Magic Resistance doesn't make me magic immune in the remaster?

I'm playing a Breton and I just got my mundane ring. Went to the academy to finish a quest and to test out the new magic immunity. Spells very much still hurt. I took the apprentice sign at the start but everything I've read has said that doesn't matter but since it's a remaster maybe that changed. Basically just asking if I'm going crazy or not
