Is my family holding me back?
Hey, I’m a 19-year-old girl and lately I’ve been receiving a few marriage proposals, but I recently found out that my parents have been rejecting them without telling me. A lady recently approached my mom about me, and you know how these conversations usually go—but the thing is, my mom has stopped updating me about any of it.
When I asked her, we had a brief chat where she said, “There’s no need to rush, you’re living a good life here with your family.” And honestly, I do agree with her. Alhamdulillah, I’m very grateful and happy for everything—I have freedom, a job, and a lot of support. But I also feel like marriage isn’t just about settling down—it’s also about taking on more responsibility, growing as a person, and stepping into adulthood.
I didn’t say much during the conversation—I just agreed—but deep down I feel like while I’m not in a rush to get married, I also don’t want to wait too long or be completely left out of the process.
Part of me is scared that my family is holding onto me because they’ve grown dependent on me in some ways, and they still see me as their little girl. And while I love being there for them, I also want to feel like I’m being allowed to grow and shape my own future too
