Insulted by another professor over AI use
I attended an adjunct writing workshop on Saturday morning via Zoom. The way it was advertised made it seem like the meeting would be focused on some pedagogical skills and development, and then it turned out to just be focused on praising and worshipping AI. After finding out the workshop’s true purpose, I asked about some advice on AI-resistant assignments. The members of the college writing committee of the community college that hosted this event basically doubled down on the fact that I should embrace it instead of “ignoring it” and said that professors who are anti-AI are “paranoid” and “make students feel like the bad guy”.
I’m not going to really go down the rabbit hole again of why I detest these statements as I’m sure we all mostly feel the same way about the problem AI has presented in the classroom. Regardless of how you feel about AI, I really didn’t appreciate being insulted by other faculty and staff. I’d like to figure out who to talk to at my college about this, so if anyone has any suggestions, I’d appreciate it.
