Question on the Kennel

The Kennel being something I added to the drawing pool (I think through the Drafting Room?), I'm maybe going into it with too mush suspicion that it's connected to a greater puzzle. I'm pretty sure these are dead ends, but I just want to confirm.

- The doggy doors, can they give the dogs access to some other room (or the outside) in a way that advances the game?
- I swear that after drafting the Kennel, later in my run I was all the way on the other side of the mansion when I took an action and immediately heard both a bark and a howl. I ran all the way across to the Kennels and found no change. Is there something here?

If either of these are a thing, please feel free to hint softly at what they might be, I just suspect that they're not, and as we all know, the RNG can make wild goose chases a bit punishing.
