A husky for my husky?
Hello fellow husky lovers! I currently have 2 floofs: one 10 year old malamute mix, and one 4 year old purebred sibe.
They are both very true to their breeds in that the mal mix really isn’t a pack dog; he prefers solo one-on-one human time and doesn’t care much for other dogs. Our younger sibe girl on the other hand LOVES other dogs and very much has a husky pack mentality.
Our boy is hit and miss when it comes to playtime with our girl, he does initiate every now and then and he taught her as a pup how to play gently and fair, but she’s grown to be very respectful of his space and oftentimes when she tries to initiate he will give her a grumble to tell her no.
She will sulk and go outside to nap on her own and I just feel so bad for her when this happens 🥺
We’ve been talking about whether or not it’s a good idea to get another husky that matches her energy, but I worry about our older boy resenting us. He already had a rough time when we brought his new sister into our home but has grown to accept and co-exist with her.
The other thing I worry about is our girl ADORES our boy. He is her hero and cannot be without him (he couldn’t care less if she’s not around hahah). As much as I hate to think about this, there will come a time when he’s no longer around and I worry for her mental and physical health when it happens.
We thought maybe introducing another now is a good idea to help with the inevitable transition, but I’m just torn because I don’t want our boy to feel sad 😔
What do you think? Is introducing a 3rd a good idea or a bad idea?
