Getting a lot of new followers suddenly, but not sure why?

Definitely a good problem to have, but I’m trying to understand what’s driving it so I can double down.

I started an Instagram page for my dog about 4 months ago, and it’s now grown to around 6,300 followers. Lately, I’ve been noticing a steady stream of new followers, but I can’t figure out where they’re coming from.

Some context:

1. I’m not following these accounts, so they’re not follow-backs.
2. All the new followers seem legit - they’re real dog-related accounts.
3. Instagram Insights shows very little profile activity (profile visits or follows) on my recent posts.

The only thing that changed recently is that I started posting reels recently. They’re getting between 2k–4k views, mostly from non-followers. But again, profile visits/ follows from these reels seem very low in insights - definitely not enough to explain the follower growth.

Anyone experienced something similar or have a theory on what might be driving this?
