What do you do with brand new strings you don’t like?

Hey Bass players! A guitar player convert here who now is in LOVE with the Bass!

I fell in absolute love with Bass playing once I got myself some d'addario 45-100 flat wound strings! They are glass smooth and feel silky to my fingers, perfect tension, tone and feel.

Yesterday I got a screaming deal on a Squire Vintage Jazz Bass $190, (already had a P Bass) the guy at Guitar Center at the counter recommended Roto Flatwounds 45-105.

I get them home , unpackaged them and put them on….they are no where near the d'addario strings I love, no where near as smooth, they are flat wound but more like 80% flat and 20% regular wound.

The tension is also quite tight. Just not what I was expecting at all. It’s just not what I like at all.

Given that Bass strings are roughly $50…

How do you all handle this?

Eat the $50? Tough it out? Save them as emergency backup strings you’ll never use?

Thanks 🙏
