After my grandmother's will was forged, my relatives kicked me out of the house I was supposed to inherit, now I’m homeless, ill and I want to end my life

TL;DR throwaway account.. my grandma got ill, got to the hospital, relatives forged her will 9 days before her death while she was barely alive, even though I was the legal heir before backing it up with a handwritten will. Her partner of 30 years (my non-relative- grandfather) disowned me, lost my job and my partner, blew my savings on lawyers and PI's and grandma's son evicted me from the house I was supposed to inherit. Now I'm thinking of ending it all because I just fell ill and I don't even have an insurance anymore

Hello. I never thought I’d end up posting my problems anonymously here, but I’ve had enough of everything that’s happened over the past year. I just want to scream the pain out of me. I'm sorry if this post would make little to no sense, everything hit me as a ton of bricks and I still try to wrap my head around the past few months.

Let me start by saying I don’t live in the US. The whole story began in 2023 when my grandmother got sick. No one cared for her, not a single relative paid proper attention to her. I was always close to her, so I visited her regularly and took care of her.

In May 2023, her legs started swelling with fluid, and she could no longer care for herself. I had to help more and more with tasks around the house. This went on until August 2024, when she was hospitalized after a fall. She stayed in the hospital for a month and was then sent home. I kept visiting her regularly. During that time, I also took a new job that required more hours so I could stay employed. I received a handwritten will from her with two witnesses, one copy of which I kept one. It stated that she left everything to me. Her partner of over 30 years (not my biological grandfather, but I always considered him family) helped care for her too. I helped with daily tasks and stayed in constant contact.

In November 2024, my grandmother fell out of her bed during the night and had to be hospitalized again. She was kept there for an extended period. I visited her whenever I could. Meanwhile, I moved into her apartment, which was in her name. She and her partner lived in his house. They weren't married.

One night, I got a call from the hospital saying her condition had worsened. Her circulation was poor, she didn’t know where she was, and she was very weak. I rushed in to see her, and the nurse on duty that day mentioned that a strange man had come to visit her a few hours earlier. Based on the description, I had never seen him before. I didn’t know who he could be besides me and my grandpa, no one else ever visited. Even the nurses hadn’t seen him before. My grandma spoke in confusion, and I asked her roommates about the man since she no longer understood her surroundings, didn't comprehend anything. The man introduced himself as a relative. That’s when I knew she probably had only days, maybe weeks left... she didn’t even recognize me anymore...

The next morning I called my grandpa to tell him about the strange man. He was shocked; he hadn’t been informed about anyone visiting. That day I had to work a 24-hour shift and couldn’t visit. We agreed he would call me in the evening with updates. He didn’t. I came home after work, fell asleep from exhaustion, and woke up to his call, he said strangers were harassing grandma and wouldn’t leave her alone. He had told the nurses to notify him or me if anything suspicious would happen. He couldn’t go himself because he was visiting his children that day and we’d agreed on this beforehand since I was supposed to visit her.

I rushed in and found a crowd at her bedside. I only recognized one cousin. I didn’t know the others. They started yelling, asking why she was in such a bad state, why I wasn’t caring for her at home, and where her child was (whom she hadn’t spoken to in years). They made a scene and were eventually escorted out.

After that, everything seemed fine again, until Christmas Day, when she passed away. The hospital called. I wasn’t allowed to visit. We organized the funeral and buried her in January. The probate hearing was set for February.

I asked my grandpa when the hearing would be, since I never got an official notice. He only got one because he was a relative—they were never married. Without an official summons, I couldn’t attend. I contacted the notary for details since I had never dealt with anything like this. The notary informed me that only those named in the most recent registered will would be attending. I was stunned. I brought in the handwritten will with a date. He told me a legally modified will had been filed just nine days before her death, with a lawyer's signature on it and that it overrode the handwritten one.

That’s when everything began to make sense. It had to be during the time the relatives visited her before she died.

I consulted a lawyer. He advised me to gather witnesses and evidence, but neither the nurses nor my grandpa knew anything. My relatives I was in contact denied everything. That month was a blur. Everything happened so fast...

After the ruling, the official heir was declared to be my grandmother’s son. No one knew how or why. In the original handwritten will, I was named as the primary heir and my grandpa as the second.

Meanwhile, I lost my job due to downsizing. My relationship fell apart. After spending tons of money, time, and phone calls, private investigators, I received an eviction notice. I had spent all my savings on legal fees. Everything began spiraling downward. My grandpa whom I looked up to turned his back on me and said I was no longer his grandchild, even though we had always loved each other and I had grown up thinking of him as family.

Now I’m homeless, just surviving day by day. I have no parents in my life, no siblings, I’ve had to make it on my own since I was a teenager.

I feel like the ground has been ripped out from under me. I’m still alive only because of the kindness of strangers but even they often treat me like an animal. I’m not a part of society. I’m just an outcast. I don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs. I never imagined I’d end up here. I'm ill, I'm cold, I'm tired, I feel like a stray dog. All I wanted ever was a loving family and friends like every normal child, a normal partnership, supportive environment, yet I never knew I would be deserving of such fate

This is the end. I’ve given up.
