Transfer addiction

I’m a retired alcoholic (sober 3.5 years) looking into vsg. I have heard multiple stories of people getting bariatric surgery and then their addiction to food transfers over to alcohol/drugs etc. My question is has anyone with some sobriety under their belt had issues with starting to drink again, turning to drugs etc. or what did you end up turning to? I’m stable in my sobriety, but I know transfer addiction can be strong.
