Thoughts
My reason for wanting to get off social media is the time suck - particularly reels, which somehow suck me in and an hour or so later I realize I’ve been on my phone doing nothing worthwhile. I don’t have FOMO, or care about getting likes. In fact, I rarely post these days - I find it overwhelming. Either you have to post regularly or never. So I chose never. I also find it overwhelming to have to like and/or comment on everyone’s stuff. For me, it’s all about time spent on a worthy pursuit.
I do like to see what old friends are doing on Facebook, etc, but the negative (time wasted on reels, which I somehow always get stuck in) outweighs the benefits for me. I haven’t ever considered Facebook to be a genuine connection with people. It’s more like being nosy. And I do believe “likes” are meaningless, but I know they are everything to some people.
I’ve tried using Brick, but I’m not consistent with it. I don’t want a dumb phone because I need access to other apps daily. Not sure what to do next. It’s really the reels, for me. I wish they were optional. I feel like hours of my life have been stolen. I deleted Facebook and Instagram, but I can re-download them (iPhone) and I do sometimes.
