Closed Lis Vs Open

Looking for some information about the closed LIS procedure vs Open. The Open is definitely more common but has a higher healing time as referenced by some who've undergone the procedure.

However, I'm a bit concerned about the infection rates but most studies suggest that the closed LIS has lower chances of infection. Has anyone had a Closed Lis and have any information about chances of infection??

Also, regarding Open Lis, is there any way to stop the stool entering the surgical would when you have a bowel movement?? I know the cut is only around an inch from the anus but would applying a sterile gauze or some type of barrier cream or antibiotic cream help with any stool leaking into the surgical site which I'm guessing may be one of the biggest causes of infection.
