Seething
Every day I was taking deliberate steps to better myself. Working out, watching my diet (though I admittedly slipped up during the winter months and stagnated there, big deal), applying to jobs, interviewing, training, boosting my skills — none of it was enough. I’m seething at the fact that you saw all that and had the nerve to tell me you weren’t seeing growth. I guess the part where I focused on you 90 percent of the time during the previous six months and helped you navigate getting into school and solved every crisis you faced didn’t count for anything. Because that’s what I was to you: useful, until I wasn’t. You dared to say you fell in love with my potential. You really made me feel worthless when I was feeling the best I had in years. Who cuts their partner down like that when they’re spending each and every day trying to improve themselves? It’s not my fault you didn’t notice and were too preoccupied with your own delusions. You need to hit rock bottom in order to develop some actual character, so I hope you fail. I really do.
And good luck even getting in here now.
