What kind of places can repair tape decks anymore?

A few years back I bought a Tascam porta one four track, under pretense from the seller that it worked. When it arrived, everything worked besides the record function, the sole reason I bought it. I wouldn't imagine a lot of places would be able to repair a tape deck from 1980 (?). Online searches yield no useful results. Am I just out of luck?
