Clover lawn, Southern Ontario, Canada

Hello! Last year I spent several thousand dollars having our grass removed and a mix of clover and grass seed sprayed over the soil. I wanted straight clover but the contractors insisted it had to be mixed with the grass seed. I'm very unhappy with the amount of grass we have and would love to rip it all out in favour of creeping thyme, clover, and flowering ground cover for the pollinators. I do not, however, want to spend several thousand dollars doing so. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!!
