Adrenal Tumor Messing Up My TTC Journey—So Frustrated, Need to Vent!

VENT

I’m at my breaking point with this health nightmare that’s totally derailing my TTC journey. I’ve been struggling with infertility for 5 years, and it turns out I have an adrenal adenoma that’s messing with my hormones and stopping me from ovulating. On top of that, it’s all indeterminate and could very well be cancerous. I’m in my early 30s, and I’m so scared—not just about cancer, but about how this is stealing my chance to conceive.

The plan is to get this tumor out with surgery, which my specialist says gives me a good shot at ovulating again and getting pregnant naturally. But my in-network clinic completely failed me—they couldn’t even diagnose it properly, let alone do the surgery. They just wanted to try meds, which won’t work with the cancer risk. I need surgery ASAP! I tried finding other in-network endocrinologists—one in a nearby city didn’t take my insurance, and I’ve been waiting forever for a response from another health system. A family member who’s a doctor recommended this specialty hospital because they’re more likely to do surgery over meds, which is what I need to get back to TTC.

Here’s where I’m losing it: my endo and surgeon at this hospital are out-of-network, even though the hospital first told me they accepted my insurance. Now I’m facing a huge out-of-pocket bill I can’t afford—tens of thousands of dollars I didn’t plan for. I’m trying to appeal to my insurance, but it’s a nightmare—they’re so slow, and I’m terrified they’ll deny it. I even asked my primary doc to write a letter saying I tried all my in-network options, but they wouldn’t fully back me up because the specialty hospital wasn’t their idea. Like, what was I supposed to do—wait around for cancer to happen while I can’t ovulate and my TTC dreams slip away?

I’m so angry and heartbroken. I just want to ovulate, get pregnant, and not have to worry about cancer—but instead, I’m fighting insurance and dealing with this tumor. Has anyone else dealt with a health issue like this while TTC? Or fought insurance to get out-of-network care covered? I’d love any advice—or just some support from others who get how hard this is. Thanks for letting me vent—I’m so over this!
