Help
I started going to a Catholic church 6 months ago after I had some serious revelations about myself and the church that led me there. I did not grow up Catholic, I did first communion in a Lutheran church and was baptized Lutheran thanks to my mother. A few weeks ago, my dad told me that my mom had actually been thinking about joining the Catholic Church. This was completely unknown to me before she died 8 months ago. So that’s kind of neat.
My wife and I have been married for 8 years, and we’re on the brink of divorce. We have two boys, 8 & 6 years old. I’m 32. Years ago, we made an agreement to not force them to go to church or force beliefs on them. When they’re old enough to understand, 13 years old, that’s when I can take them to church. I was a different person when I agreed to this and was very jaded about the church. My wife calls church a scam and leans towards general spirituality in a secular way. I have been open about my faith and beliefs and going to church, it has caused huge problems on top of our already existing problems. Obviously I want them to through confirmation and everything, and to be a part of the church. If I were to go through OCIA every Sunday on top of just going to church it would cause huge problems. Can’t get her to see the priest to start the process of our marriage being approved by the church.
I’m most worried about our kids. I closed the door one time and prayed the Lord’s Prayer with them, I told my wife about it and she refuses to even let me pray with them. I know I’m responsible for their spiritual development at their age, but me going through with that would likely end in divorce, which would harm them even more.
This is hard to type on a phone so I apologize if it’s hard to read.
Any thoughts?
