Suikoden Theology

*Spoilers*

I just finished replaying all 5 main titles. Suikoden V has always piqued my interest in the completely unexplained mysteries of Jeane and Eresh and the Old Armes (?) ruins.

Apparently Eresh is supposed to be Nagarean? Nagarea is a theocracy and Eresh is said to wear the robes of high-ranking clergy. I always assumed Eresh was possessed by a higher ranking being - a possible Jeane explanation too - and it got me thinking.

If Nagarea is focused on holiness and gods, is that what made Eresh susceptible to possession? Maybe even purposefully? They're connected to Jeane, too, and show her severance. Are Raura also Nagarean, given their outfits (and Raura's connection to Jeane)?

This also brings to mind Harmonia and Zexen's worship of St. Loa (and Iksat's Sadie). So we have some Northern continent deities, a southern continent theocracy, a few Egyptian/middle eastern characters with connections to said theocracy and Ancient Armes.

Now Zerase. Refuses to explain. Definitely some kind of non - mortal. She often floats and at times has no shadow when others do. A servant of the night rune, it seems, with a unique Star rune, keeping tabs on and assisting in the order and containment of the sun rune and its affiliates. She too has an odd connection to Jeane.

Of course we know that the main force behind the Suikoverse are the 27 True Runes, but do we also get glimpses of lower order gods throughout the game, in the form of Jeane, Zerase, and Eresh? Though Leknaat and Viki are connected to Gate and Blinking runes, are they too deities? Do Jeane and Eresh abide a certain rune as the others? (And in a much farther stretch, is Jeane one of these female deities depicted the Suiko-religions?)
