Just realized my ex-gf was BPD
First I want to start off by saying thank you to this community for being very helpful to me in understanding my past relationships. There was a time in my life where I felt completely lost with no clue where to search for answers. I've been a long time lurker here but I would like to contribute back to this community with my story.
She was my ex-gf back in university. She was blessed with the rare combination of being book smart and physically attractive 5'5" East Asian, size 0, and a beautiful crooked smile that I would day dream about. Her girl friends would literally ask me "how did you get her?" because of how picky she was. Meanwhile her male classmates in graduate school would tell me, "She gets a lot of attention from all the guys." Imagine how this is suppose to make me feel being in this position being in a relationship with her. I didn't stand a chance with what I was about to find out.
It started great as with all relationships. Love bombing each other with our feelings and gifts that were probably far too many too soon. Until one day she tells me that she is going to Vegas with her friends. I was fine with her going to Vegas until she told me it was with a bunch of guys. I met these guys before during another social event and my impression wasn't great. They were the typical loud single guys trying hard to party to get attention types. I also didn't like the fact that my ex said they all met only a couple of months ago,
"So you basically don't know them all that well?"
Cue the first of our many pointless fights. I don't feel that I was wrong here to be disappointed in her lack of judgement about this Vegas trip. If anything, I noticed it only made her more determined to go on the trip instead of being considerate to how it makes me feel as the pathetic boyfriend who wasn't invited,
"They are my friends not yours."
Of course her friends here about this along with many other strange behaviors she would pull. The final straw was when she blamed me for not being able to concentrate on her studies. I told her just take all the time you need to study and don't worry about me. She maybe took that too literally because soon after her finals were finished she broke up with me. I was shocked, heartbroken, and had no clue what happened.
Ironically, her friends started inviting me to social events where my ex was not invited. Her friends revealed to me that my ex immediately started dating another guy who she brought to some graduation dinner event where they all thought I was going to be her date. Her friends were so nice to me and really helped me heal from all the trauma and confusion I experienced in that moment.
In closing, I just want to say that BPD is a serious disorder. I remember running into her sister randomly where we discussed some of the strange behaviors I experienced while being with my ex. My ex was not close to her sister even though she would express wanting to be closer. The sister agreed that my ex would say and do a lot of things that caused issues in their relationship but at the end of the day they are still sisters. Hearing how my ex would emotionally hurt even her own family and the ones who loved her was heartbreaking to hear but not surprising. TBH I'm not even sure if my ex knows or is self-aware enough to know how she is hurting others around her. I really hope my ex finds the professional she needs but it's not my burden to carry.
Happy to answer any questions in the comments.
