V1's P-Ranks and Prime souls

I was wondering lately: people say it's canonical for V1 to always get P-Ranks in every stage in the shortest time possible, right? How does he manage to get to Prime Souls? He can't go back in levels and go to prime souls, can he? Or does he go to prime souls first and then do P-Rank in the rest of the layer?
