The marketing / trying to build community for the devs is a little cringe
The number of advertisements for dev streams, Q&A, etc, seems high. This game is like 1/1000ths the size and 1/50th as fleshed out as deep rock galactic, and yet these guys are doing daily giveaways, live streams, etc.
Here’s what we actually want:
Do the game outreach somewhere where you don’t already have a captive audience. The people here already own the game. We don’t need to be sold. Pay a big streamer or 3 to play. I’d rather watch that than a dev with some kind of “hook” to watch to the end (like answering 1-3 Q&A questions).
Share a roadmap of features. During updates (no more often than monthly) jump in to answer a few questions on features/roadmaps/feedback. But let players make the content.
Instead of streaming and seeking questions for Q&A and giveaways, spend that time actually working on the game.
If you feel the need to answer questions,
Factorio does it great - they buckle down for a while and then pop up with dev logs about the development process. We don’t really need to see devs play the game… we could just play it ourselves. But to share some thoughts about dev or something is interesting.
Deep rock also did it great. Tons of games out there with great dev interaction. I’d take some cues. I’m not sure why the dev interaction community feels like it’s competing for our attention when instead it should be encouraging us to PLAY THE GAME with tournaments / contests / awards / free weekends, etc
