I (39F) chose to be a single mother last year (for a very valid reason) - Pros & Cons

Marriage

Hello everyone, first of all, I wish all the couples a truly happy relationship & marriage. So, here's my story - I belong to a perfect example of a middle class family (father is a retd.govt.official, mother has been a homemaker for a long already, & my elder siblings (1 brother & 2 sisters) are doing fairly well with central govt.jobs. All of them are married & have kids. I being the youngest of all siblings was always taken for granted by others at home. My elders (especially my eldest sis & bro) do help me financially whenever possible. The middle sister (41F) has always bullied me & she also has a habit of comparing my 3.5 yr old son (who has a speech delay with few spoken words as of now, but he has a pretty good emotional understanding of everything that goes around) with her 6 yr old daughter (she is an autistic child & is now improving gradually with regular therapies my sis & her hubby take her for). Many a times I am not able to deal with her (my middle sis) who also has a support of our mom. Thankfully my sis & I stay in different states.

Now, coming to my marital issues. I got married 5 years ago to a man (37M) who initially (before marriage) appeared to be supportive of my decisions (if I want to work & earn money or be a SAHM after marriage). He & his mother started showing their true colors after our marriage & things even got worst after having a kid. Forget supporting me (although I had taken up a contract job along with an arrangement of child's daycare facility), he & his mother have collectively abused me physically, verbally, mentally & emotionally during all the years of marriage when we were together. They never took the child's responsibility even once so far, since I have been doing child's everything on my own right from the beginning, without any househelp. The only thing is he (ex-husband) is running two independent businesses and making good money, he is able to support the child's education. Besides that, he was never & still isn't ready to support me financially. I have already filed a DV case against him (which also includes his mother's Ill-treatment to me), which is still going on.

I walked out of their place along with my child (as I & my son, both felt extremely unsafe there). Now I & my son live my parents and my god's grace I have also taken up a job here (recently). So the initial financial struggles are still there as a single parent. My son in between sometimes misses his dad (who will only do video calls to see the kid & indirectly to keep a check on me). Ex-hubby is not willing to take any physical responsibility of our child. So, I have to now deal with all this alone.

I do have an old male (40M) friend interested in me, who is a divorcee & doesn't have kids. He does support me emotionally & also provides valuable advices. But this very idea of marriage scares me now, as it involves so many hidden layers to it. Going forward with this might also change the current financial dynamics with my ex-hubby, who is now at least supporting the child's education. Not sure what to do in this situation. Any sane advice will be appreciated. TIA.
