Exit Strategies and Self Care in the Meantime
I’m making plans to leave my current job. Updating my resume and putting my feelers out there. I just started in a few months ago, but I gave it 3-4 months to see some improvement from the disaster I experienced Day 2 of this new job and nothing has changed. It’s worse to me. I’ve had excellent reviews but my exec will follow up something nice with a critique. She could say I did 200% (she has) and then follow it up with something condescending that makes me feel like I didn’t just give 200%. As I’ve been new, there’s been little to no training (their company systems and filing), I’ve pivoted, succeeded however they all throw each other under the bus and when someone drops the ball I’m the eternal scapegoat. I could brush off the others but my exec constantly poking holes in my work no matter how well I do, is something I can’t continue on with. She’s belittling, unnecessarily demanding, extremely controlling, a workaholic, and she pushes back on attempts I’ve made to renovate her systems even though that’s what she highlighted she desperately needed. The company itself it absolutely a great place to work; benefits, location, perks etc - 99%. She’s just a very stiff 1% that can’t be worked around. I feel the burnout coming along with constant battles with my anxiety and depression because of the added stress. It’s not stress from “work” it’s the stress from someone telling you you’re never good enough even when you’re right on target.
For the sake of my resume, I’d like to stay 1 year but I don’t know if that’s possible…so I’m applying in the meantime. Until then, I dread going to work (having the Sunday Scaries right now). What advice do any of you have with coping in the meantime while I try and land a new job?
