Experiences w/ brokers/realtors on spareroom?

Starting my apartment hunt and have mainly been using spareroom. Having been scammed myself before and from reading other horror stories, I really want to stick to just talking to current roommates if possible but that shrinks the pool so much. My question is are there any reliable companies or has anyone had a decent experience with them? Examples are June Homes, Doorway llc, Settle Living just to name a few.
