Kenshi Fact of the Day #138

TIP

-Purchasing Unpurchasable Buildings-

Before we begin let's make a deal!

I was planning on saving this trick for a 20 Kenshi exploits you didn't know video... Where I would make a deal with the viewer. If they knew at least half of the tricks they would dislike the video, but if they didn't, they would like it... If I end up ever making that video and you see it, do not count knowing this trick against me, as you learned it from me. Well, if you didn't somehow already know this trick that is. Okay with that out of the way...

Requirements

  • Money (c.800 for each "condition" the building has.)
  • You cannot be hostile with the faction which owns the building.
  • The building must be either a Hive Commune Hut, Hive Queen Hut, Ancient Lab, Ancient Citadel, or Ashland Dome.
    • If anyone tries out this exploit and finds other buildings it works with, please let me know!
  • Must be in a village, outpost or town.
    • So, it doesn't work in ruins.
      • The map icon is how you can tell what type of "town" you are in.

Steps

  1. Find a building which meets the criteria.
  2. Click on the building. (Whatever your select button to see the stats on an NPC is)
  3. Quicksave the game. (By default this is F5)
  4. Move you mouse over to the bottom left side of the screen just to prepare.
  5. Quickload the game. (Be default this is F9)
  6. At the bottom left you'll see an option to purchase the building which shows up for a few seconds. Click that. If you fail to click it fast enough just quickload again.
  7. Success.

(If you need to see it in action down below I have 4 recordings showing it off)

Notes to add and some warnings.

  • Building a building will mostly brick the AI of anyone who lived there originally. They will mostly just sit there aimless. If it's a building like Tengu's one the guards will leave every so often to sleep in the camp beds outside.
    • In other words, I wouldn't recommend doing this in any towns you actually care about.
  • NPCs will still act as if they owned the building. If you change a building you bought from public to private, you will be attacked for intruding if you are seen, even though you own the building.
  • Everything built inside of the structure will be removed when you purchase it. The furniture doesn't come with the property :(

A few short videos I recorded showing it off.

Buying the Queen Hut and a Commune Hut. (These buildings SUCK for placement... Suggest not buying them tbh)

Buying Catlon's Dome and the Stormthrall Dome. (They suck for placement on the second and third floor... Also suggest not buying, but you do you!) In case anyone is confused as a requirement was that you cannot be hostile with the faction, Second Empire Exiles aren't hostile relation wise to the player faction. The Stormthralls just attack everything on sight and Cat-Lon attacks stuff nearby after his speech.

Purchasing Tengu's Palace. Notice how the guards and Tengu just break and stand still.

Buying the Abanoned HQ in Mourne.

I didn't show off everything you can purchase. Longen's Palace in Heng, Science HQ in World's End, Iron HQ in... Well Iron HQ to name the ones I can remember off the top of my head. There may be some more (Not counting the tons of Hive Huts you can purchase clearly) that I am forgetting to mention... If you can think of any, please let me know and I'll add them!

I've messed around a ton with FCS, and I can't for the life of me figure out what causes only those building types to be purchasable. They don't have any values in common that other structures don't have as well. I've spent so many hours tinkering around to see if I can figure it out but to no avail. Would love to hear if anyone has any ideas. My current belief is maybe it has to do with the size of the structure, but that's my best guess as of right now.

Anyways hope you guys enjoyed this trick and remember to use it responsibly!

Or don't. You do you.

Megathread which contains links to every previous Fact of the Day with descriptions.
