Do consulting and finance firms hire people with large gap and late 20s?

I read that marketing companies prefer freshers and younger guys mostly. And most companies even consulting and finance dont shortlist people with 2-3 years gap and people aged 25+. Unless person has experience in that field. How true is this?

I have good profile other than the gap. And if things dont go too wrong can get a good percentile. But to just end up not even getting shortlists after spending so much would be painful.
