How to upgrade my editing skills?

Hey everyone! Currently, I'm using iMovie to edit my videos. To be honest, all I really do is make cuts and sometimes change timing, add music or text to the screen. I see others in my niche making more sophisticated edits, which makes their content more engaging, so I'd like to do the same! Is there more I can be doing in iMovie, or should I use another software? Thanks in advance!
