Not sure I understand the point of reopening Alcatraz as a federal prison.

I'm in favor of locking more criminals up. I truly believe that's how you get their "attention".

That said, Alcatraz was closed for a reason. It was closed in 1963 due to being too expensive to continue operating. So not only would it be far more expensive, considering it was build on an island 2.6 miles from San Francisco. So not only would it be quite expensive to operate, but the prison was built in 1934 and is obviously in serious disrepair.

I mean, I'm not going to worry too much about this one way or the other, but it doesn't seem like a super practical idea, imo.
