Trying to recover old Messages from Skype 7 files

I have a laptop that died back in Jan 2016, but i managed to get all my data. I have the skype files, this would have been Skype 7 I guess.
How do I go about getting the chat logs and is there a way to transfer them to the current version of Skype?
