Subject: Seeking Information on James Hugh Stewart (b. ~1792, NB, Canada) – Stewart Lineage from Charlotte County, New Brunswick

Hello everyone,

I’m currently researching my wife’s Stewart ancestry and am hoping someone might have information or connections to James Hugh Stewart, born around 1792, possibly in New Brunswick, Canada.

According to family tradition and limited records, James Hugh Stewart may have married Elinor MacFarland on October 29, 1816, in Saint Andrews, Charlotte County, New Brunswick. I haven’t been able to locate a confirmed marriage record, so any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s the known lineage:

James Hugh Stewart (b. ~1792)

Father of Hugh Stewart (b. 1816 in New Brunswick, d. 1886)

Hugh lived in the Mascarene area of Charlotte County.

He was the father of William Wallace Stewart (b. 1865 in Mascarene, d. 1955), who married Elizabeth Bradford Mitchell.

William and Elizabeth had a son, Herbert Gordon Stewart (b. 1895, Charlotte County), who later moved to St. George.

His son was Ronald Edward Wallace Stewart (b. 1925 in St. George, d. 2010).

We are particularly trying to:

Confirm the marriage of James Hugh Stewart and Elinor MacFarland in 1816.

Learn more about James’s origins—whether he was born in Canada or emigrated from Scotland.

Connect him to any known Stewart families in early New Brunswick, especially those with ties to Scotland.

Any help, tips, or connections to Stewart researchers with ties to Charlotte County or Scottish emigrants in the early 1800s would be wonderful.

Thank you in advance!
