Why Do Throwing Weapons Have Lower Chance To Hit?

I’m trying to use the returning pike but I noticed there’s a 5% lower chance to hit if I throw it vs if I do regular attack. No other effects are active. I can’t find anything that says throwing a weapon has a lower attack bonus so I’m really confused. If anyone could shed some light that’d be awesome. Thanks
