New Bike - Gear Question

Hello everyone, I recently got a new bike on Facebook Marketplace, just using it for fun/some exercise. I am curious as to how the gears on the bike work though, I've attached some pictures. I've never used a bike like this so I am unfamiliar with them.

Images are attached. Thank you!
