I accidentally killed a baby bird
I feel like complete shit. Like a selfish asshole, and rightfully so. Me and my friend are young teenagers, and we found a baby chicken in our yard. About 2 weeks old.
We spent hours with it, snuggling it, hugging it, kissing it, feeding it.
My friend had the idea of putting the chick on a boogie board, wrapped in a blanket, to let it float around while we chilled in the water. I knew it wasn't a good idea, but to my own selfish pleasure, I agreed, and we kept the chick on the board while we swam.
We continued that for a while, until my friend said she was curious what the chick would do in water. It had wings that were developed, so I thought it shouldn't drown, and we were there to help if the chick did.
The chick started swimming, looking like it was panicking and cheeping like crazy. I got worried, we had let it swim for about a minute because it looked like it could keep its head above water, but I believe it's constant cheeping made the water build up in its system, and I quickly picked it up, and it made these horrible gurgling sounds, and I immediately got worried as hell. I took the chick inside as fast as I could, wrapped it up, tried doing a bit of cpr, but it was laying limp.
And all for our enjoyment. I'm a fucking idiot. I'm feeling so guilty that I feel like self-harming. If it weren't for us, that chick would've survived.
I love chickens. Seeing one die, for something that I DID, not to mention a BABY? It's tearing my insides apart
