Line vs bar graph

Hello, all,

How do you know whether to use a line or bar graph?

I thought it had to do with quantitative vs categorical explanatory variables, but no. For example, the relationship between Carbon Fixation by Rubisco Under Different Temperatures is plotted with a line graph.

Any and all help is appreciated.
