2012+ Touareg Tdi as daily driver?

I’m sure this has been covered before many times, but haven’t found the answer I’m looking for. I drive 90 miles round trip for work 98% highway driving at 65-80mph, and drive for vacation from NY to SC once a year. I don’t tow (yet), wife would like a small camper eventually. I miss my old SUV but couldn’t take getting 19mpg anymore going to work on a good day. So got rid of it and got civic that average 35 mpg with. But seeing guys get high 20’s low 30’s on the highway has me thinking if the Touareg Tdi would be a good DD for me. What are the opinions on using them for DD only and not towing?
