How do you write on the ipad with the keyboard cover?

Something that also confused me was how people write on their iPad when it is propped up with the keyboard case (pardon, forgot the actual name of that case). Do you have your hand float in the air and write (kinda like an artist with an easel)? Do you remove the iPad from the case if you know you're using the Apple pencil for a prolonged period of time?

I'm asking about person preference here. I've never owned a keyboard case for an iPad.
