Family of 5 living in 1 Bedroom Apartment
First, let me explain:
I'm currently in a tough financial situation and have been considering relocating out of state. However, the job markets in the South and even Central North America don’t offer the same opportunities or pay, and that makes the decision difficult. At the same time, the cost of living where I am now has become completely unsustainable especially housing. Multiple-bedroom apartments are outrageously expensive, and the idea of owning a home feels completely out of reach. My income likely won’t increase for another 2 to 3 years, and there’s a chance it could even go down.
I’ve always had the mindset that I make too much to qualify for government assistance, but not enough to actually live comfortably. I want to provide for my family and give them a stable, secure place to live, but with prices the way they are, it feels impossible. I’m seeing 400 sq ft, one-bedroom apartments going for nearly $2,000 a month it's unreasonable and not financially viable.
At this point, I'm seriously considering renting a one-bedroom apartment, converting the bedroom for my kids (2yr old twins, and 1 year old all girls), and turning the living room into a sleeping area for my spouse and me. I’m not sure of the legalities or whether landlords would allow it, but I need to find something that works for my family until I can get into a better financial position. I honestly don't if this is the correct route, I just need some advice.
