Radical Sanation
I have been working with the nullity minister at my parish to annul a previous marriage, which will be straight forward because I was married in my ex husbands non-Catholic church without a dispensation (which I didn’t know I needed at the time). I have since remarried outside of the church. My husband is not a practicing Catholic, and he will not go through classes or another ceremony.
I am trying to make things right, so I can start having communion again. In talking to the Nullity Minister, I asked him about a radical sanation. He said that a Catholic ceremony needs to take place place or I just need to live with my husband as brother and sister, and I need to talk my husband into going to church or he won’t go to heaven.
He said that he would ask the parish priest, but they’ll likely want to talk to my husband and try to convince him.
I do not want to pressure my husband into any of this. This is my faith journey and not his. God gave us all free will, and I believe he has the freedom to choose how and if he wants to be involved in the church.
Why is the concept of radical sanation out there on my local diocese’s page, if it’s not really an option for people? Do I just keep asking or give up and go to another parish?
