Club Swap Advice (Sell 3, Buy 1?)

Equipment Discussion

I’ve been golfing for about 18 months and have broken 100 once from forward tees. I currently play 5800-6000 yards and have yet to break 100 from that length (my current goal). As I try to score better, I’m eliminating the factors that hurt me — namely, hitting shots/clubs I have no business hitting. Which leads me to my dilemma.

One year ago I won three brand new clubs at a charity auction: Paradym 3W, Paradym 3H, Paradym 5H. However, I feel completely uncomfortable hitting these clubs and honestly score better when I just keep them in the trunk. They feel too long and too unpredictable. I bet I’ve swung the 3H less than 5 times during a round.

What I’m thinking of doing is selling these lightly used clubs at my local Golf Mart and potentially buy one club that I feel more comfortable with. I’m thinking like a 7W or 9W. Couple questions I need help with:

  1. Is this a good idea? I want to balance fiscal sensibility with buying something to help my game.

  2. What club would you recommend for a high handicapper who wants to balance forgiveness with more length?

  3. Are there any common traps that people fall into when selling clubs?

I’m genuinely unbiased and need advice. I can see merits to sticking it out with these longer clubs that I got for a good price. I know a new club isn’t going to fix my game. At the same time, I don’t feel comfortable swinging these clubs and think there might be a better solution. I currently take lessons but we don’t usually break into these longer clubs.
