How do you guys deal with working on a production where the script is painfully bad.

Question

Just finished an unpaid student film as a first year film school student as the sole sound person. I was dragged on by my friend who was the 1st AC so I was not really part of pre production. After the first two hours of the first 12 hour day I realized that the script just sucked really bad. Bad dialogue, the action sucked, and how the script tackled the theme just sucked. I normally have no issue with mediocre scripts as to be expected with new new film makers like myself. But this was someone who had gone to film school and spent a long time in pre-production and multiple drafts.

After the shoot I talked to my friend and he also hadn’t realized how bad the script was until we had wrapped.

I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this and how one normally deals with or copes with this?
